HOLIDAY MEMORIES
The holidays are meant to be a time to spend with family and friends, to enjoy each others company, to relax and share stories of our good, and sometimes bad, memories of the year and years gone by. Yes, there is also some shopping and food involved but often the best memories are those we create with others reminiscing about our friendships and our family.
I learned a lot about my family and relatives, as well as their friends, over the holidays, when we'd all get together and the adults would share memories of the fun times and sometimes the hard times. Inevitably someone would run off and come back with a picture album and I'd hear, 'oh my, look at how young we looked', or 'do you remember him, he was the one that....'. The stories were more entertaining than what ever was on TV and since there weren't any other kids my age around I'd always sit near by and listen. I'm glad I did because I learned more about my relatives and family friends this way than by the odd short visit that might happen now that everyone lived so far apart or had families of their own to juggle holidays with.
As time goes on we forget to take the time to pull out those albums and relive some of those great memories and more importantly to pass down those stories to our children. With today's digital world that might all be lost one day soon, when we can't just grab an album and flip through it... Social medial platforms will change, storage devices will become obsolete and we won't be able to access those precious images of Grandma with her 2 yr old granddaughter, or Dad with his daughter the day she was born.
How many pictures did we all take this Holiday season that will get forgotten in a few years, never to be seen again?
After all is said and done this Holiday season, please consider taking some time to print out some of those special memories that you captured on your phone or camera. Someday they will be all that you can look back on.
